Microbiological or Genetic Testing

Microbiological or Genetic Testing: may or may not be indicated in your case and if we feel that it is indicated we will provide this service for you.  Drs. Dennis Nishimine, Dee Nishimine, & Sophia Tseng utilze all of these services for your individualized periodontal implant needs.  From the information gathered an appropriate treatment plan will be provided.  The use of antibiotics may be recommended if indicated.  Once again the daily OHI is still the most important aspect of this because we must control the amount of bacteria present.  No matter what you do we will always have a normal oral flora present which consist of these bacteria and we want to control the total numbers.  "A few bugs can't hurt us but a great number will overwhelm us and cause disease."  "Cleanliness is next to Godliness."

Microbiological Testing: Periodontal Disease (PD) is caused by Bacterial Plaque which is composed of bacteria or micoroganisms.  We have over 400 various species of bacteria in our mouth and there are a few that are "major players"  that are very harmful if present in excessive quantities.  If these "bad bugs" are present in excessive numbers and antibiotic regimen will be prescribed for you.  We  may also suggest the use of prescription mouth rinses of chlorohexdine for you.

Genetic Testing: may be recommende for you and if this comes back positive we will treat you case with that in mind and this may be a more aggressive approach to your therapy.  We will highly recommend that your family and sibilings be evaluated as well for similiar Periodontal Disease (PD) problems.

Good oral hygiene practices and periodontal cleanings are essential in maintaining dental health and keeping periodontal disease under control!  "We do not cure periodontal disease we can arrest it."  Your two hands and daily oral hygiene and proper follow up care with our office and your referring doctor are the key to success.
