Phase II Therapy: Corrective or Surgical Phase

Phase II Therapy:  Corrective or Surgical Phase

After you have completed Phase I Therapy:  the re-evaluation will now provide a definitive or final treatment plan to bring your diseased condition back to a "state of health".  We want to bring the oral cavity, teeth and gums and bone back to a state of health that you can maintain on a daily basis there after.  Surgery may sound intimidating but it should not be.  "Where and what do you want your teeth to be like in 20-30 years?"    Drs. Dennis Nishimine, Dee Nishimine, & Sophia Tseng will then present the various options for your needed therapy.

We will answer all of your questions?   We want you to have a commitment of daily OHI, and understand the benefits from your periodontal implant therapy.  We want to enhance your SMILE!

Corrective or surgical procedures will allow us to rebuild the foundation for you and maintain your natural teeth and dental implants.  This may involve reducing the pocket depths, rebuilding or growing bone, rebuilding or grafting soft tissues, and placing dental implants.

We will discuss each these indiviually in depth in another section.

During the course of this phase of therapy your comfort is our primary concern and we will ensure this with the appropriate medications and sedation.

Alternatives to surgical correction (Non-Surgical Therapy)  may be recommended for several reason:

1.  If you do not have a commitment to your daily OHI and have scores above 20% on the Plaque Control Record.  We would recommend to defer this and spend more time on you OHI of Brushing and Flossing.

2.  You may think that you are medically compromised and Drs. Dennis Nishimine, Dee Nishimine, & Sophia Tseng will confer with your Medical Doctor to ensure your safety.  There are very few medical conditions that would be a contraindication to having ideal periodontal therapy provided for you.

3.  If you are not "ready" or psychologically ready to proceed we can treat you non-surgically.

4.  Financially it may be a burden and we can easily take this into account and treat you in a slow and stepwise manner.  We would treat the areas of greatest concern and 6-12 month later take on the next area.  It is not ideal but even if we take 2-3 years to complete the case you will still benefit.
